What is the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe and why do we celebrate it?
In honor of Our Lady’s Apparition to St. Juan Diego on December 12th, 1531, we commemorate Mary by celebrating with Mass and other events/prayers (Matachines, Rosary, Mañanitas). This year, the Feast falls on a Sunday, and because Sunday supersedes all Feasts, the Feast of Our Lady isn’t technically on the Liturgical Calendar. However, the Church does provide for a possible celebration. At Saint William, we are doing just that with Votive Masses and surrounding events.
