The 75^th Anniversary of the Diocese of Austin

Beginning November 19, 2022, through November 18, 2023, the diocese will celebrate the 75th anniversary of its founding on November 15, 1947. The year of celebration will begin with a Mass with Bishop Vásquez, and a program featuring a keynote speaker, live praise & worship music, our diocesan choir and more! In addition, Bishop Vásquez has designated five Pilgrimage Sites around the diocese, a commemorative book for purchase and a history display that will travel to parishes.

The chosen theme for our 75th Anniversary is “That they may all be one” (Jn 17:21), which is also the theme for our Eucharistic Revival. Bishop Vásquez prays we journey together during this time growing in love of the Eucharist and care for one another.

75^th Anniversary Commemorative Book: Treasures of the Diocese of Austin
Commissioned by Bishop Joe S. Vásquez in celebration of our 75th Anniversary, this beautifully bound book captures the history and images of our vast diocese. From its earliest days, when residents, settlers and newly arrived migrants came to Texas, building towns and living their Catholic faith, to the present day, this almost 300-page book tells the history in text and photos. Photos of all parishes, missions, convents, schools, hospitals and more live in this compilation. 

The "Treasures of the Diocese of Austin" book is a keepsake and will be a wonderful addition to every home. Books are expected to arrive in mid-November and will be available for purchase in the Saint William gift shop and parish office during business hours.
 

75^th Anniversary Pilgrimage Sites

Celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Diocese of Austin, five parishes have been designated by Bishop Joe S. Vásquez as pilgrimage sites to be part of a Plenary Indulgence.

The Pilgrimage Sites

• St. Mary Cathedral Parish, Austin
• Sacred Heart Parish, Waco
• St. John the Evangelist Parish, Marble Falls
• St. Mary of the Assumption Parish, Taylor
• St. Thomas Aquinas Parish, College Station

The Details:
Pope Francis grants the faithful a Plenary Indulgence for the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Diocese of Austin. The indulgence is valid from the opening Mass on November 19, 2022, through the closing Mass on November 18, 2023. 

How To Receive This Plenary Indulgence:

• Be baptized and in the state of grace at the completion of the prescribed works below.
• Must devoutly visit a pilgrimage site and pray the Our Father and recite the Creed.
• Must meet the three usual conditions of sacramental confession, Eucharistic Communion (receiving Holy Communion), and prayer for the intention of the Pope.
